OPINION: APC National Leadership and President Tinubu Should Beware of the Dangerous Cult of a "Supreme Leader" in Ebiraland

The recent emergence of a political culture that seeks to elevate an individual to the status of a "Supreme Leader" in Ebiraland should concern not only the people of Kogi State but also the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Across history, one lesson remains constant: no mortal is supreme. Every human being, regardless of wealth, influence, political power, or social status, is subject to the authority of Almighty God. The Bible teaches that God alone is sovereign over heaven and earth, while the Holy Qur'an affirms Allah as the only absolute ruler, without equal or partner.

For this reason, any attempt by an individual or political group to promote a human being as "supreme" crosses a dangerous line. It encourages personality worship, weakens democratic values, and promotes the illusion that one person stands above institutions, traditions, and the collective will of the people.

History offers many examples. Leaders who considered themselves untouchable or allowed excessive adoration often met humiliating ends. Power is temporary, but accountability is permanent. The graveyard remains the greatest reminder that every mortal, regardless of rank or influence, eventually returns to dust.

Ebiraland has a rich cultural and religious heritage. Christians believe that only God is supreme. Muslims affirm that Allah alone possesses absolute authority. Traditional beliefs equally recognize the supremacy of the Creator above all earthly powers. Therefore, the notion of a human "Supreme Leader" is foreign to the values and traditions of our people.

Leadership is a responsibility, not a divine title. A servant leader cannot simultaneously claim supremacy over fellow citizens. When individuals begin to see themselves as unquestionable authorities, the consequences are often tyranny, injustice, intimidation, and abuse of power. Democracy thrives when leaders remain accountable to the people and subject to the rule of law.

It is therefore important for the APC national leadership and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to pay attention to developments in Ebiraland. The party should discourage any political narrative that seeks to elevate any individual above democratic structures and institutions. Political loyalty must never become blind worship.

The people of Ebiraland do not need a supreme leader. They need responsible leaders, accountable representatives, and public servants committed to justice, development, and the welfare of the people.

Let it be clearly stated: there is only one Supreme Leader of the universe—Almighty God. Every other leader is merely a temporary steward entrusted with authority for a season. The earlier we reject personality cults and embrace humility, the stronger our democracy and society will become.

The era of idolizing politicians must end. The supremacy of God remains eternal, while the power of man is temporary.
