He began his early education at Catholic Primary School, Okene, before gaining admission to the prestigious Government College, Keffi, where he distinguished himself both academically and in extracurricular activities. During his time at the college, he served as Football Captain, Boxing Club Captain and House Prefect. His outstanding academic performance earned him a place in the College Hall of Fame.
Upon completing his secondary education, Alhaji Shuaibu Musa commenced his professional career as a teacher and sports coach. He later proceeded to Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts (B.A. Hons.) degree in Public Administration in 1972.
While at the university, he demonstrated remarkable leadership qualities by serving as President-General of the Ebira Students Association. He was also an active member of the university football team, further reflecting his longstanding passion for sports and youth development.
Career in Broadcasting
In 1972, Alhaji Shuaibu Musa joined the Broadcasting Company of Northern Nigeria (BCNN) as a radio journalist. Through hard work, professionalism and dedication, he rose through the ranks to become Deputy Director of Programmes.
In recognition of the importance of professional development, he undertook specialised training at the BBC in London in 1977, where he received training in community radio broadcasting. The knowledge and experience acquired during this period contributed significantly to his subsequent contributions to broadcasting and community development.
Service at Ajaokuta Steel Company
In 1980, Alhaji Shuaibu Musa joined the Ajaokuta Steel Company, where he served in various senior personnel and administrative positions and eventually rose to the position of Deputy General Manager.
During his tenure, he played an important role in recruitment and employment, particularly in creating opportunities for many Nigerians and young people from Ebiraland to secure employment with the Ajaokuta Steel Company.
His commitment to professionalism and integrity was further demonstrated during the 1984 administrative investigation into the company, during which he was exonerated and subsequently received a commendation from the police authorities.
Contributions to Broadcasting and Public Administration
Following his return to the Federal Public Service, Alhaji Shuaibu Musa continued to serve in several important capacities.
He was appointed a Board Member of the Kwara State Broadcasting Corporation, where he contributed to efforts that culminated in the establishment of Radio Otite, recognised as the first radio station in Ebiraland in 1989.
In 1992, he served as a member of Election Petition Tribunals for Kwara and Kogi States, and subsequently served on a tribunal in Abia State. These appointments reflected the confidence placed in his experience, competence, integrity and sense of responsibility.
In 1993, he was appointed Director of Administration and Finance at the Centre for Management Development (CMD), a Federal Government parastatal responsible for manpower development and management training for the public and private sectors.
He eventually retired from the public service in 2008, bringing to a close a distinguished career spanning education, broadcasting, administration, human-resource development and public service.
