It is no longer news that the result of the 2023 presidential election is currently under dispute at the Presidential election petition tribunal sitting in Abuja.
As a reminder, both Atiku Abubakar and Mr. Peter Obi are urging the court to overturn the victory of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
It's worth noting that both the Petitioners and Respondents have recently submitted their respective written final statements.
According to ThisDay Newspaper, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu's final written statement to counter Obi and Labour Party's petition, filed by his lawyer, Wole Olanipekun, argued that Mr. Obi failed to prove their case.
ThisDay Newspaper quoted Olanipekun as requesting the court to consider only Tinubu and Atiku for a rerun if the election result is overturned.
Tinubu's final written statement reads: "In the highly unlikely scenario that the election of February 25, 2023, is invalidated, the only candidates constitutionally eligible to contest any subsequent election would be the 2nd respondent and the candidate of the PDP who secured the second-highest number of votes in the largest number of states (19 states), compared to the 1st petitioner's 16 states, and also secured second place by plurality of votes, having garnered 6,984,520 votes, significantly higher than the 1st petitioner's 6,101,533 votes."
