On the issue of Recall Process in KCSD, I decided to wait for the first stage, collection of signatures and submission of petition to INEC Nigeria before I comment…
A Recall Process for any lawmaker is a constitutional thing and well captured in INEC bye laws. Those who are calling for it reserves the right to do so if they felt they want to do it. It’s pure politics!
However, I have my reservations:
Firstly, the mode by which the collection of signatures was initiated was fraudulent. Cajoling your people to come out for an empowerment program, and in turn asked them to sign documents that will enable you to initiate a recall process of a senator is termed deception and disinformation of your people. This act alone if proven could nullify the petition process.
Secondly, How did you gather over 250,000 signatures of registered voters out of over 488,000 registered voters in KCSD? The KCSD Senate election of 2023, which took over 2 years of preparation and campaigned only garnered 106,303 votes out of over 480,000 registered voters. Breakdown below:
APC - 52,087
PDP - 51,763
LP - 1,226
NNPP - 620
ADC - 179
SDP - 165
ADP - 162
PRP - 101
Before Tribunal.
By the statistics being brandished by the recall initiators, they have gathered over 250,000 signatures. This is highly questionable! Even the General Election in Nigeria has not seen this kinda turnout
The people of KCSD must surely not like their Senator.
Thirdly, it will be interesting to see how the people that signed the documents would be able to replicate their signatures correctly, during the verification exercise at each polling units in KCSD, totaling more than 780 PUs.
Fourthly, let’s assume that this Herculean task without conceding, is achieved, considering Naija factor, do you know that any recall Lawmaker stands the chance to contest in the bye-election that’ll be ordered by INEC afterwards? And could also win again? In a nutshell, we are just going around in a circle, waiting tax payers money for a task that the bye-laws have made nearly impossible!
Finally, the ball is now in the court of INEC! Between now and 24 June 2025, the verdict would be out and I will be here to tell you what I already know would happen!
Point To Note: Misinforming your people is the height of disservice you can ever do to your people! If you had done right by them, it wouldn’t have been hard to approach them with your intentions to seek their support.
