Despite not holding any political office at the moment, Ataba arguably commands one of the most formidable grassroots political structures in Kogi Central Senatorial District, particularly in Okene. This structure has evolved over time, drawing strength from various political movements, youth mobilizers, and women groups who have maintained a firm grip on local political engagements for more than eight years.
His strong connection with youths, both in Abuja and across Kogi Central, has further given him a strategic advantage over his contenders. His residence in Abuja has reportedly become a hub for many young people from the district, serving as a point of support and engagement. Through his influence, several energetic youths have found opportunities for empowerment and involvement in meaningful activities.
When contacted, several aides within Ataba’s media team confirmed the defection claims, insisting that the reports are not mere speculation. However, some political observers argue that the historical political leaning of Ataba’s clan could make such a move plausible under the right circumstances.
Speaking on the matter, the Chairman of Ataba’s Forum in Okene I, Alhaji Abdulmalik K. Abdulmalik former Chairman of the APC Elders Council in Okene stated:
“When Ataba decides, we are ready to follow him. But for now, there is no such matter on the table concerning our son.”
Should the rumoured defection to parties such as the PDP, ADC, or NDC eventually materialize, it could significantly reshape the political landscape, potentially strengthening whichever opposition platform he joins ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Politics, however, is not a knockout contest but a continuous league. With its ever-evolving dynamics, what seems unlikely today may become reality tomorrow.
Ultimately, the people of Ezi-Agada particularly Eziogu and the broader Okene I constituency will play a decisive role. As a politically influential clan, Eziogu cannot be sidelined in matters of power-sharing and representation.
One thing remains certain: Ataba is determined to be on the ballot and to contest peacefully, but decisively.
