The protesters, drawn from the five local government areas of Kogi Central, demanded a fresh primary election, alleging that the process was marred by irregularities and lacked credibility.
According to reports, Yahaya Bello emerged winner of the APC senatorial primary with 72,399 votes across the district. However, the protesters questioned the credibility of the exercise and raised concerns over the conduct of the process.
During the protest, the demonstrators alleged that the former governor did not appear before the APC screening committee and accused his camp of conducting what they described as a parallel primary involving only his supporters.
Speaking on behalf of the protesters, Usman Adabara, Coordinator of the Kogi Central Movement, described the exercise as “flawed from the beginning” and urged the APC national leadership not to ratify the outcome.
The group appealed to the party leadership to organize a fresh and transparent primary election in the interest of fairness, accountability, and party unity.
The development adds a new dimension to the political tensions surrounding the APC primary process ahead of the 2027 general elections.
