Kogi Appointment: ALWAYS SAME PEOPLE WHY?

I salute Kogi State government for a bias and selfish system of governance. This is the 10th year the regime has shifted to the central senatorial district, and since then, appointments have been revolving within a few people in the system, as if others are forbidden from holding positions in government, this is not applicable to the central senatorial district alone but all the three senatorial districts of kogi state.

I congratulate Abdullahi Bello, who was a party chairman for almost nine years and now a commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs, and Deedat, who was a commissioner for water resources, works, chieftaincy affairs, and is now works commissioner again. I'm using these two as references; it's been like this with almost every other appointee who started with former governor Yahaya Bello since 2016.

This system of appointment has negative effects on the system, to list but few are;

- The administration loses valuable members because their efforts aren't appreciated, making winning elections difficult.

- There's no proper accountability due to long-term relationships and conspiracies amongst the appointees, leading to underperformance. For instance.Former governor Yahaya Bello claimed that funds were released for water project in the central to the same Deedat who has changed portfolios for more than two times under the same government, and now a commissioner for works and till date there is no portable water in the central.

- Appointees become powerful and show impunity, this leads to building of hatred for the government and critics.

- Resources aren't spread for people to benefit, causing severe hardship on our youths. For instance it is alleged that one can not point out a single individual which Abdullahi Bello had personally helped to grow or develop, and that is the type of individuals changing positions like shoes.

- It discourages better heads from showcasing their skills as they are not given the opportunity to do so which leads to low performance and achievements of the government because it takes better hands to do better jobs.

- It's killing ambition in politics and might cripple reasonable numbers of future politicians. If 12 or 16 years is taken from the years of a politician what is remaining? Moreover, time and age is important in politics, we are expected to have low numbers of active and popular politicians in the future and that is not good for our political space.

- The system will make the government unpopular and the achievements unnoticed, because they lose loyal members by limiting leadership to old cabals alone and this is democracy which they said is government of the people but ours is antidemocracy as people are being restricted access to participate in the system because of greed.
