This was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday and signed by the Chief Obaro Media Forum, which stated that the beneficiaries were carefully selected across the five LGAs to ensure fairness, equity, and genuine need. The event took place at De-Villa Hotel, Okene, on 22nd December, 2025.
According to the statement, Chief Obaro specifically directed that beneficiaries must be truly indigent students whose parents or guardians are unable to afford WAEC registration fees—particularly students who could not sit for the 2023 Junior WAEC due to financial hardship.
“It could be recalled that a similar educational intervention was extended to over 50 students in 2002. This consistent pattern of support further underscores the unwavering commitment of Distinguished Chief Momoh Yusuf Obaro—a philanthropist, caregiver, and a true ‘talk-and-do’ leader—to uplifting the less privileged in society,” the statement read.
A parent of one of the beneficiaries, a highly respected wife of a community leader from Okene, expressed profound gratitude in an emotion-laden response. She described the intervention as timely and lifesaving, assuring that the beneficiaries would justify the gesture by excelling in their examinations and becoming worthy ambassadors of Kogi Central.
The initiative, tagged “Chief Obaro Educational Support Scheme,” forms part of his broader and sustained commitment to educational development in Kogi Central and Kogi State at large, with the organisers noting that some non-indigenes also benefited from the programme—further reflecting his inclusive leadership philosophy.
Speaking at the event, Comrade Ayihi Yaqub Abdulmumin, who anchored the programme, described Chief Obaro as “a pillar of good administration with strong academic credentials.” He praised him as an embodiment of grit, determination, and hard work, noting that he remains one of the most enterprising and impactful sons of Ebira land.
“I thank God for creating him as an Ebira man for the benefit of our people, our nation, and the African continent,” he said, while praying for continued divine blessings upon Chief Obaro, his family, businesses, political associates, and Nigeria.
Chief Obaro was represented at the event by Elder Andrew Enebe (popularly known as Andy), who reiterated the philanthropist’s resolve to invest in the future of the younger generation through education and empowerment initiatives that strengthen confidence, discipline, and ambition.
Elder Enebe welcomed the students and stressed the importance of education, urging them to obtain at least a WAEC certificate, regardless of their current level of interest, as it remains a gateway to future opportunities. He cautioned against sexual harassment, warned against bad peer influence, and advised students to stay away from drugs and social vices, emphasizing dedication to studies and moral discipline.
He further reminded the students that even when help comes from influential individuals, certificates and character remain essential for progress, urging every child to complete secondary education.
The event, held at De-Villa Hotel, attracted seasoned academicians, education stakeholders, parents, and community leaders.
In his address, the Coordinator, Education Task Force Movement, Adavi Chapter, Comrade Osuwa Usman Muhammad Ametinigo, lauded Chief Obaro for complementing government efforts in the education sector, describing the gesture as timely, impactful, and widely appreciated.
He charged the students to remain focused and disciplined, stating:
“Your future is in your hands. The only way to secure a better future is not to allow material distractions to overwhelm your dreams.”
Also speaking, Engr. Ubaid, Director-General of the Ododo School-to-School Campaign, urged parents to prioritize education as a foundation for preparing their children for the future.
“Beyond education, parents must instill discipline and the fear of God in their children. Background and upbringing matter greatly in life,” he said.
Engr. Ubaid lamented that many young people lack clear goals and charged students to embrace discipline, define their ambitions early, and pursue them with determination.
