Dear Ogu Clan Youths,
As we approach the election campaign season, it is imperative for me to address you directly. As your President, I feel a deep responsibility to guide our youth on the right path during this crucial time.
Our political history provides ample lessons. Any sensible youth who wishes to be remembered for doing good should recognize the path politics demands. Reflect on our past: how many political leaders are willing to admit their ties to thuggery? The answer is none, for associating with violence and intimidation brings shame, not pride.
Consider the countless youths who have lost their lives while supporting politicians. How many of those had their families provided for after such tragic losses? Tragically, the truth is that your worth is acknowledged only during times of chaos, yet you are forgotten when it’s time for governance.
Real rewards come from effective governance, not from election campaigns. Politicians who previously relied on your support may dismiss you after the elections, saying, “I already paid you for your help.” They may even resort to threats or legal action against you if you seek recognition for your efforts. Meanwhile, others—those who had no role in the campaign—might receive the appointments you deserve.
While participating in these illegal activities, you may find yourself arrested or abandoned once the elections conclude, becoming a burden rather than a valued contributor. The pain of your loss will be felt by your family, as the politician will simply replace you.
Politics is fundamentally a numbers game, and you, the youth, hold the power. This power can be exercised wisely, without resorting to violence or unlawful actions, if we truly understand our influence.
We have witnessed the tragic outcomes of political thuggery, yet the majority of those lost have not been compensated with positions of significance. The comparison between our fallen brothers and those flourishing in power is stark.
Therefore, I urge the Ogu Clan youths to heed this advice:
- Do not allow yourself to be exploited as a weapon against anyone, regardless of political affiliations.
- Remember your worth. Your parents did not raise you to become a thug; do not let anyone diminish your value in pursuit of their ambitions.
- Resist the temptation to be manipulated by elders who seek personal gain at the expense of your integrity. Stand firm and say, “I can campaign for you. I can canvass for votes. But I am not a thug; I am a politician.”
- Ask the right questions. Every politician is a self-interested individual. Inquire about what legitimate benefits you can expect in return for your support.
- Be cautious of clannish or sentimental politics. Do not support individuals who harbor animosity towards your clan. Such alliances may lead to betrayal, leaving you abandoned once they achieve power. While it is acceptable to support candidates from outside the Ogu Clan, never allow personal ambition to overshadow your identity or the welfare of your people.
Every youth who is old enough to be used as a thug is equally mature enough to be a leader. Do not squander your potential on thuggery.
Finally, understand this crucial truth: those currently in power often do not desire your emergence as their successors. They prefer to secure positions for their own children.
Choose wisdom. Choose dignity. Choose life.
Be a political force for positive change, not a mere instrument for others’ ambitions.
