A CALL FOR CREDIBILITY AND DIVINE MERCY IN OUR SOCIETY

For quite some days now, I have remained silent on issues of both personal and national interest, particularly the ongoing saga involving Senator Natasha H. Akpoti-Uduaghan and the spiritual significance of the Holy Month of Ramadan. However, silence should not always be an option when the integrity of our society and moral values are at stake. It is imperative to reflect on these matters and call for a higher level of consciousness in our dealings as individuals and as a people.

On the senator’s saga, it is evident that high-stakes politics is being played, where personal interests have overpowered emotions, and the will of the people has been swayed by financial inducements rather than credibility. It is disheartening to see that poverty—both of cash and morality—has deeply eroded our society and constituencies. Many now prioritize material gains over competence and sincerity, forgetting that leadership is a sacred trust meant for those who are capable, honest, and selfless. We must awaken to the reality that if we continue to choose money over merit, we are not only jeopardizing our future but also mortgaging the destiny of generations yet unborn. It is time we value people with credibility, regardless of their class, ethnicity, or political affiliations.

As we embrace and the end of Holy Month of Ramadan, a time of deep reflection, self-discipline, and closeness to Allah, I appeal to the Almighty to pour His mercy and healing upon us. May He grant us physical, mental, and emotional healing; heal the wounds of rejection and broken relationships; restore businesses and financial stability; and ease the suffering of those battling various health conditions, including ulcers, asthma, and other bodily afflictions. More so, may Allah, in His infinite mercy, raise new leaders in all areas of life—leaders who will govern with sincerity, justice, and the fear of God, ensuring that righteousness prevails in our society.

To my esteemed readers, I urge us all to reflect deeply on our actions and choices. Let us choose integrity over deceit, competence over favoritism, and morality over materialism. A society that prioritizes credibility will thrive, but one that sells its conscience for temporary gains will always remain in shackles. Our collective responsibility is to foster an environment where truth, fairness, and justice reign supreme.

Finally, let no one take this write-up personally but rather as a sincere call for self-examination and adjustment in our dealings. The progress of our society depends on the principles we uphold, and if we desire change, we must start by being the change ourselves. May Allah continue to guide, bless, and uplift us all.
