Response to Online Protests Regarding Unpaid Salaries and Subsequent Disengagement of Workers under NG-CARES at KEDA

The Kogi Enterprise Development Agency (KEDA) has carefully observed the online protests and discussions surrounding the non-payment of salaries, the subsequent mass payment of arrears, and the recent disengagement of workers. Clarification on the Salary Payments:

KEDA recognizes that the suspension of activities under the NG-CARES program created a period of uncertainty and concern for many workers. The government, in its commitment to fairness and empowerment, made the decision to pay 15 months of salary arrears to all workers, regardless of their individual circumstances, employment status (whether resigned, suspended, or otherwise), or the actual amount of work performed during that time.

This generous decision was made not only to resolve the protests but also as an act of empowerment, recognizing the financial pressures faced by workers during this period of inactivity. It is important to note that this payment was made across the board, ensuring that everyone received equal compensation, even though it is acknowledged that not all workers were actively engaged for the entire period.

Decision to Disengage Workers:

Following the resolution of the salary issue, the leadership at KEDA, under the direction of Hon. Muhammed Kadiri Okeji, made the difficult decision to disengage all workers. This decision was necessary to prevent the continuation of salary payments without corresponding work, which would not be sustainable or fair to the agency's mission and the people of Kogi State.
