A middle-aged man found himself in a dire situation after accidentally killing a monkey in Awka, a kingdom where monkeys are considered sacred and harming them is a grave offense, according to a report by DailyPost.

The man, a long-time resident of Awka, had set a trap in the bush to catch bushmeat. However, his plans went awry when the trap caught a monkey instead of the intended prey. In a viral video, the man admitted his mistake, acknowledging his awareness of the Awka people's reverence for monkeys. He pleaded for mercy from the community, fearing the consequences of his actions.

"I know I have committed,  the man said in the video, expressing remorse and appealing for leniency.

The Awka indigenes, after questioning the man, decided not to impose a severe punishment. Instead, they chose to appease the god of the land to prevent any negative repercussions from the sacrilegious act. Despite the gravity of the situation, the community showed compassion towards the man, understanding that his actions were unintentional
