Kogi state Commissioner of Education, Hon. Wemi Jones, FCIB has paid an unannounced visit to Okene secondary schools, Upogo Okene to evaluate the capacity of teachers, the learning of students and the structure of the school
During his visit, he checked the attendance of students especially the certificate classes, SS 3 and JSS 3 classes while he commended the Principal and his staff for their commitment towards the school activities, he advice the students to focus on their studies and shun social vises that can destroy their future.
He said Ododo led Government has given assurance that schools in the state would be repositioned to provide qualitative education in line with global standard.
According to him, government will bringing about the desired changes in the education sector for the benefit of the state and the country.
"If the education sector is fixed, everything else would work perfectly,"
The commissioner pledged to sustain visits to schools in the state "until they are well positioned to impart qualitative education to the public".
"The best way to improve the quality of education is through effective inspection and supervision, and I will continue to do so," Jones added.
The commissioner advised teachers to remain resilient as they have critical roles to play in shaping the society and humanity.
He explained that the inspection visit was to have first hand knowledge of the condition of the school and teachers since the school was recently revived after years of collapsed.
Jones expressed dismay at the level of infrastructure decay in the school.
He further inspected the students’ classes, science Laboratory, examination hall and various sections of the schools.
He pledged government support to reinvigorate and renovate the school facilities.
"The reports given are true reflections of what I have seen, the school has to be raised global present deplorable state to a better form.
Earlier, the Principal of the school, Comrade Adabara Abduljelil Umar, appreciated the commissioner for taking time to embark on assessment of facilities in the school.
The principal said on their part, they have been trying their best to ensure they meet the needs of the students.
He also commend the Executive Governor of Kogi State, Alh. Ahmed Usman Ododo for taking education as his first priority in his administration.
At the end of the exercise, the commissioner, who was accompanied by the Director of School and College, Ministry of Education, Mr. Salami Eri and others from the Ministry expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the school management and the students generally.
