Kogi: Our Members in APC Didn't Come Together to Have Discussions and Present a Common Front - Yomi Awonoyi

Yomi Awoniyi, former Deputy Governor of Kogi State, while speaking on the issue of zoning the governorship position to Kogi West, indicated that their party members didn't effectively collaborate and strategize in order to present someone from the region, pointing out that they pursued individual interests and fragmented their efforts, resulting in a missed opportunity for the party. He stated that the issue of zoning is very important for democracy to thrive in the country because it promotes inclusivity and fairness.

Speaking in an interview with Channels Television, Yomi Awoniyi suggested that to improve their chances in future elections, the APC members need to work together more effectively to present a united front. He acknowledged the sentiment that, in Kogi State's political landscape, the most feasible way to attain the position of governor through rotation is by being a member of the ruling party.

According to him, "I will agree with you. That mindset is not an unreasonable one. Like I said, I strongly believe that the quest for this power, because of the nature of our politics in Kogi State, the quest for becoming governor in our state through rotation is best achieved from the ruling party, and unfortunately, our members in the APC, they didn't come together and have discussions among themselves and present a common front. Everybody went their separate ways, so we lost out. So we will make sure that in the new dispensation, things will be done much better. "
