Honorable Asema Baba Haruna (popularly known as Chico) is an astute political servant and emerged flag bearer of the nation’s ruling party, All Progressive Congress (APC) representing Adavi Local Government State House of Assembly in the upcoming 2023 general elections.
From day one, it has been a passion for Haruna to serve and add value to the lives of the people. He has demonstrated this desire countless times in schools as well as places where he worked. For instance, he was elected two times to serve as the Workers Union President while working at the National Iron Ore and Mining Company (NIOMCO), Itakpe. He used the position to sincerely serve the workers without any form of selfish interest. He helped a lot of people, especially those from his community to secure jobs in the company. One of the achievements he was always joyful about was seeing the people he aided in getting employment growing in rank and file within the company hierarchy.
In grass-roots politics, Honorable Asema is neither a novice nor an overnight opportunist. Politically, he is grounded and has a proven track record. He has contributed immensely to the political growth of Adavi Local Government through several evolving political parties within the region. Haruna joined politics in 1987 and started as a dedicated follower of Alhaji Doctor Abdullazeez Farouk, the Tafeeda of Ebiraland. He was one-time Uhucheba Ward chairman of the People's Front Nigeria (PFN) and later became Uhucheba Ward secretary of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) when Alhaji Sanni Anumoku (popularly known as Emperor) was the Ward chairman. In 2013, Asema was appointed as an electoral officer to Adavi Local Government where he conducted elections and produced the local government chairman, vice chairman, and eleven (11) Ward councilors without crisis. He was later appointed as a Special Adviser on security in Adavi Local Government during the reign of Late Honorable Salihu Adaviruku. Honorable Haruna is grateful to God for giving him the strength and wisdom to perform his duties in all his appointments without prejudice.
The aspiration of Baba Haruna to become the representative of the Adavi State House of Assembly did not start today! The ambition can be traced as far back as when Honorable Abdulrahaman Badams was elected as the executive chairman of the Local Government through to the time of Honorable Salihu Adaviruku’s administration. Asema did everything legally possible to achieve this ambition from one dispensation to the other, but as the saying has it “God’s time is the best”. He could only learn from the struggle. He persisted but today and by the special grace of Allah, the time is now in the great ruling party, APC, and under the leadership of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello.
Asema is a home-based political mobilizer and as such, he understands the culture of the people of Adavi. He understands their pains and needs. For that reason, he vows to work diligently following the fundamental functions of the State Assembly which are to enact new laws, amend or repeal existing laws, and oversee the executives. His vision is to be "the serving light and pathfinder", and his mission is to work with laws that will ensure good governance, representing the local government accordingly and in the process ensuring judicious use of the resources of the local government for Adavians to receive maximum benefits that will change the narratives.
Honorable Asema Baba Haruna sincerely enjoined all people of Adavi to support him and to come out in mass to vote for him as the State House of Assembly representing Adavi Local Government in the forthcoming 2023 general elections under the ruling party, APC.
